The 37th International Geological Congress (IGC) is a major international conference in the field of geology.
Introduction
It is held every four years and brings together thousands of scientists, researchers, and experts from around the world to present and discuss the latest advancements and discoveries in the field of geology.
The congress covers a wide range of topics, including earth sciences, mineral resources, geophysics, geochemistry, geobiology, geomorphology, paleontology, and many other related fields.
The 37th IGC will provide a platform for geoscientists to share their research, exchange ideas, and network with colleagues from around the world.
The conference will feature keynote speakers, plenary sessions, oral and poster presentations, and field trips. The 37th IGC will provide an opportunity for the geological community to come together and discuss the latest research and advances in the field, and help to shape the future direction of geological research.
Session Proposal
The IGC organing committee has received session proposals from the globe. Until now, over 255 proposals were received. The scientifc program committee (SPC hereafter) will evaluate the proposals and will notice the results soon. In addition, meeting and shortcourse proposals were also received and they will be evaluated too.
The SPC now consider plenary speskers to feature the 37th IGC. In selecting the plenary speakers, the SPC will consider distribution of continents where. the PSs are dwelling and gender, in addition to academic merits. The presentstion themes of plenary speakers include plenetary science, material science, groundwater science, big data, geoheritage, earth quakes, structural geology. etc.
Venue, Busan
The 37th IGC will be held in August 2024 in Busan, Korea. The Busan city is the second largest city in Korea (South). It faces East Sea and South Sea. It has been developed as an international trade port and many big ships are entering the ports of the city. The city has many good sightings. The Haeundae beach is one of the most beloved places in Korea and especially in summer, millions of people visit the city and the beach.
The Busan wants to host 2030 World Expo and a couple of days ago, Inquiry team from BIE visited the city and millions of citizens welcomed them and showed their strong eager for hosting the expo. We will await the result to be determined in November this year.
Government Support
This is an academic event for geologists. Over 6,000 geologists will visit the city for this event. They will sightsee as well as attend the academic meeting. Some of them will accompany their family. Thus, this a good opportunity to advertize the virtues and beauty of the city. Busan metropolitan city is now trying to do best to hold the event successfully. Also KIGAM is supporting the organizing committee. So we expect that this will be very successful academic festival.
